The Smart Effector is sensitive to strong varying magnetic fields, which is why users who replace the standard E3D hotend fan by a different one sometimes experience spurious triggering.

Are you probing with the bed heater on? Most bed heaters generate very little magnetic field, but a few types generate significant magnetic field (enough to affect BLTouch probes). So try probing with the bed heater off. RepRapFirmware has an option to temporarily turn off all heaters during probing, but I don't know which other firmwares provide this feature.

It's also possible that magnetic fields from the PSU are causing the problem. I have the PSU under the bed too, but it's a low power one (because the bed heater runs off mains voltage), also the bed has 5mm of aluminium which probably provides effective shielding.

thanks for that idea - I've already checked rs-online, but they only have the -453 type, not the 153. Well, I checked it again and found out that the difference is just the wavelength (color) and I'll just order the -453 type.

Spain...my provider Hector, has contacted his sales rep...so let´s wait for it.

Just a quick note to say that the fan has had no issues once rotated away from the Magnetic Balls.

I also have to say I'm a big fan of the Magentic filament sensor, its readings are really helping me understand if the printer is well calibrated all around (including extruder and hotend distance)

Yes. You could confirm by using the jog buttons the move the nozzle in the -x and +y directions

zprobe.in+zprobe.mod works fine. I must have missed that in the docu. I usually use the effector with the sensitivity 8:247 and double tip each point.
I get the best consistency with this setting. Down site is that the fans must be off during calibration. In the new firmware a lot of stuff changed. Took me a while to move settings. Good thing is that you have to do it just once.

The 6 pin is just power => connect to any fan connectors and the heater
The 8 pin are the sensors => z-probe and thermristor

@Danal I am well aware of the workings of the strain sensor in the Smart Effector. I have followed the docs in regards to plastic washers etc.

As i have already written, i conced that it is probably what caused the malfunction, but curious as to "how/why"

The probing speed you have set (120) is too slow for the Smart Effector, and you have left out the recovery time parameter as has already been pointed out. Please read the setup instructions.

They can't be disabled in firmware because they are connected in parallel with the heatsink fan. You could run separate wires to the heatsink fan instead of using the 2 pins in the 6-pin connector. Or you could cut one of the traces that connects the LEDs, but of course that will void the warranty.

@kolja Yes passed finger test just fine. Can't feel any heat on sink w Noctua 40x10 from 12v on Duex 5.

Some time ago I was experimenting with fans and forgot to pin 12v on Duex, so powered 12v Noctua from 24v, it worked just fine for about minute or 2 till I realized why it spins much faster. Not sure how long it has to work on 24v till damage occurs, but I think that 15-16v on Noctua will increase air flow without making in louder.
