No, it's not a combined Tool Board/Smart Effector, although that is on our list to do.

Yes - I can confirm that by “set correctly” I mean that there is no jumper.

I’ll have a look and see what I can figure out, but to be honest, I’m a bit dirty that I only just got this printer built, working and dialled in, and now I have to pull it apart again just as I got to the fun bit. 😞

That said, I’m happy with the Smart Effector, except for this failure. I think it has become an essential component in any decent Delta build.

Actually the design is based on the Sherpa Mini 👅
But they all use BMG gears (with Orbiter motor), but without planetary gears from the Orbiter.
And they seem to require a wider rod-spacing or higher adapter to clear the rods.

Here is a teaser of my ongoing experiement, trying to free some space between the rods.
It's too early so say anything.

@bassco How did you configure the Smart Effector for Klipper?
I can't seem to find any info on it 😞

This is my current config:

[probe] pin: PC1 z_offset: -0.1

The wiring was okay and was in working order before going Klipper, so that's not a problem.

@droftarts I think I got the probe working. Not really having any better ideas, I inverted both the z probe in pin and the z mod pin in the cogfig.g. When that didn’t work, I inverted just one pin at a time. Apparently having the mod pin inverted did the trick, and it works, although I have absolutely no idea why that is the case.

I also plugged in a spare thermistor directly into the board and it worked fine, so I’ll do a little fault-finding. Perhaps it is a bad sensor...

Have you put the arms on in such a way as to minimise the magnetic fields given of ie to have nth and south poles adjacent to each other round the effector?

Are the print cooling fans running? The magnetic fields from running fans can induce enough voltage in the effector electronics to trigger it.

I have the Smart Effector on my RMax v2 with the molded cheapskates. The carriage adapters that come with the SE will fit perfectly on the molded cheapskates where the ball joints mount. 713Maker has some really nice stuff, but learn from my mistake and don't get the SE to ballcup arm adapter ($40). The problem with the 713Maker adapter is that it increases the distance of the arm articulation points between axis (not between the two arms of each axis, but between each axis) which makes the effector VERY susceptible to tilting. This wiki page describes it all very well.
Just order a set of 304mm (or larger) magball arms to go with the smart effector and you'll appreciate the upgrade from stock.

That's normal because DWC only polls data every n.n seconds. If the Z-probe really misses a probe, you get a warning or error in the console.

@garyd9, from the symptoms you describe I am fairly sure that your effector has the old firmware, and reprogramming with version 2.01 firmware would fix it.
