External Triggers on DUEX 5
-
Hi there,
I've read the "Using M581 - External Triggers and Building a Control Panel" on dozuki but I have the DUEX5 connected.
How can use external triggers with it?
Cheers!

I think they work as described in the M581 documentation, with the Duex5 endstops named E2, E3, E4, E5 and E6. See wiring diagram for location: https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Duex_wiring_diagrams

Hey,
That was my thought as well but wondering what's instead of pin 44 (RESET) ?
Also it says than one can have up to 9 triggers (reprap firmware) but I see only 5 e stops on the duex5 , what am I missing ?
thanks

It's a limitation in the firmware that only lets you define nine triggers, and T0 (effectively an emergency stop) and T1 are special cases (see M581). There are ten connections on the boards you can use, counting the endstops on the Duet as well as the Duex, ie X, Y, Z, E0, E1, E2, E3, E4, E5 and E6.

ok cool.
so if I want to have an emergency stop with the duex5 I'd make a macro for that right?
cause there's isn't a pin44 (reset) on the duex?
also, just to clarify, the XYZ endstops on the duex5 are they separated from the duet XYZ endstops that trigger the axis for the printer?
I mean, I've got my XYZ endstops on the main board connected to the XYZ axis already, the ones you mentioned on the duex5, they're independent and shouldn't interfere with the other endstops ? -
No, I don't think there's a "pin44" reset pin on Duet or Duex5. Is this a definition from some other electronics? Are you looking for a hardware emergency stop, rather than one driven by firmware?See later post.If you look at the wiring diagrams, you'll see the Duet has the X, Y, Z, E0 and E1 endstops, and the Duex5 has the E2, E3, E4, E5 and E6 endstops. This makes 10 pins available for configuration as triggers. I think you may be confusing the physical pins on the boards with the logical triggers (T0...9). You can make any of the endstops an emergency stop, by defining it as T0, as this "causes an emergency stop as if M112 had been received". T1 pauses the print. You can define your own macro if you define an endstop with a trigger number T2 to T9. eg, to define the E6 endstop on the Duex as the emergency stop pins, put this in config.g:
M581 T0 E6 S1 C0 ; Invoke emergency stop on E6 endstop, on rising edge , anytime
Re-reading the documentation, it looks like you can have 10 triggers, T0 to T9.

ok I think I got it.
regarding the pin 44 thing: "Pin 44 forces a reset when shorted to ground so that button was easy enough."
I got that from the M581 guide on dozuki. So if the XYZ endstops are in use already (XYZ axis) I have left E0-6 for my own macro-triggers.
thanks!

Also E7 and E8 on the CONN_LCD connector.

Ah, yes, you're right; Pin 44 on the expansion header resets the Duet when shorted to ground: https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Using_M581_-_External_Triggers_and_Building_a_Control_Panel#Section_Wiring
As you can see from that build, he's wired it direct to the expansion header on the Duet, but you have the ribbon cable which goes to the Duex5 connected there. I can't see this pin broken out anywhere on the Duex5 wiring diagram https://d17kynu4zpq5hy.cloudfront.net/igi/duet3d/3wbm6g2qRUBfSHgw.huge
Though you could solder a wire to the back of the board if you want a hardware reset emergency stop button!Ian

Or you can clamp another 50-way IDC connector on the ribbon cable, giving you access to all the expansion connector pins.

ha interesting!
will give it a shot.
thanks ya all

BTW any updates regarding the DUET 3 and its expansion boards?

Duet 3 main board pre-order for the next batch (estimated delivery late November) is already open to resellers, and will open to everyone this evening.

and the expansion boards?

I'm not sure about expansion boards, it depends on whether we can finalise the design before Tony leaves for ERRF.
