Hardware update os Duet 2

(how much @dc42 would be able to say).
he said that currently the tmc software driver is driver specific and can not handle different drivers on the same board.
that would be some refactoring. -
Until something even better comes along, we're looking at standardising on TMC2209 drivers for up to 2A peak motor current, and TMC5160 for high currents. The TMC2209 has some features that the TMC5160 doesn't, and costs less. So we see TMC2209 as the best choice for small to medium 3D printers and small CNC machines, and TMC5160 for larger ones.
The 32-bit board that Prusa has at last shown uses TMC2209, not TMC5160
-
Duet v2, what steppers include? TMC2660s? No?
-
@peirof yes TMC2660 on the current designs dor the Duet 2 Wifi and ethernet. for new designs we are likely to use TMC5160 or TMC 2209
-
and how can know what steppers mount my Duet? Seeing board?

only 2660 are used as of today for the duet 2.

I can buy 4 TMC 5160 and use it with Duet v2? Out of the box? It will be necessary do some mod (hardware /software)
no only 2 external steppers are supported, and you can only run them in standalone mode. (no software configuration of the steppers)
Is it possible to use a TMC driver as external stepper and program SPI from a different SPI source like a Raspberry? I mean Step/Dir/motor current from the Duet external connection, the SPI pins, which are in most cases on the top of the chip anyway, connected to the Raspberry with separate current (ground is shared), being programmed before the driver is used.

Motor current is also programmed via SPI.

@dc42 I meant the 4 wires to the motor.
Is that scenario possible? I have my deficits in electronic knowledge, so I don't know whether this damages something.
-
Yes, possible in theory. You would need to set the motor current as well as the other parameters from the Pi.
-
@dc42 Than you, I may try it and wanted to know whether it's possible in theory to connect it this way.
