Shared positiv line for heaters
-
Hello Guys,
I am trying to build a 5 Hot-End setup with Bowden-Extruders. To reduce wiring I would like to run only 1 positive Line for all Heater Cartidges and then split them up into the individuals. The shared wire will have a bigger diameter to handle the current. Is this possible (like shared positive for fans) or is there something special about the heater pwm ports?
Furthermore does it make sense to get the positive line right from the power supply?
Best RegardsEdit: Wrong naming in picture

Common positive will work fine with the Duets low side switching.
(You don't need to run the common positive back to the heater terminal, if using more than power supply you will need common ground between the supplies) -
Drop a fuse inline for your own piece of mind incase of a dead short. Better still would be a suitably rated relay after the fuse to kill the common controlled by the PS_ON (M80/M81) output of the board.
Edit: I agree with @bearer, take the common back to a spare input on your power supply would be easiest. No need to do anything with the posative terminals of the heater terminals on the duet, leave them unpopulated. In a standard setup the duet is merely providing a fused common feed to all the heater connections anyway. Fairly certain there is nothing more than the fuse between VIN and the posative heater terminals.

Correct.
