Source for 8 mm by 5 mm rod
-
Hi,
In a previous post about obtaining lead screws with smooth ends it was suggested using rigid couplers between the lead screw and a short piece of 8mm rod.
For proof of concept I was able to find short pieces on Amazon but they were not a true 8 mm (7.90 to 8.00). With them I was able to verify I could do just what I needed to do.
So does anyone know where I might find the short pieces I am looking for?
Thanks much.

@fcwilt Try searching for steel dowel pins. They are usually ground accurately to size. Whether you can find any the the right length is another matter. If not, there is always a hacksaw

Misumi have lead screws that have various finished ends. Some of them are pricey, but they also sell cut to length rods with various tolerance settings.

Dowel pins are probably the best. Make sure you get parallel (most are) not tapered. I've made that mistake before... the most common parallel ones are DIN7 or ISO 2338 which should be ground to within a few microns. Most are hardened too
