Understanding Duet....

Hi,
After update to firmware 3.x... the results of calibration has changed....
One thing, for me interesting, its that in FW2, when calibration end, jumped a pop up with calibration results, in Chrome... This allowed me to know at a glance if the calibration had been good, or had there been a problem ... now, it is not that it is much less accessible, it is less comfortable ...
Is there a way to activate that informational message with the result of the calibration?
The next question, also related, is to help me understand the calibration results ... for example, these are my last results, in console....:
G32 Calibrated 8 factors using 17 points, (mean, deviation) before (0.209, 0.048) after (0.000, 0.041)
Whats its de mean and deviation? Some web when find info? or can someone explain it?
Thanks

Hi,
If you are looking for what "mean" and "deviation" refer to there is this simple explanation:
https://www.mathsisfun.com/data/mean-deviation.html
In the case of G32 you are dealing with the Z height values obtained by the probing of the bed.

i suspect hes after the visualization of the height map in dwc?

Well he mentioned something that "popped up" and when using v2 firmware I never had the height map appear unless I asked for it.
But he may well be thinking of the height map display. Good thought.

Calibrated 8 factors
Anybody knows what the '8 factors' mean? Are those coefficients of some polynom?
As for mean and deviation, I think mean is average error from 0 and deviation is average error from the mean which can be view as a measure of the flatness of your system (?).
(remember that mesh calibration considers not just your bed but also you x/y mechanics, e.g. a bow in one of the fails will affect the measurement).

i was thinking its a delta auto calibration thing, but don't recall it giving any pop-up like the height map did.
probaly a little lost in translation

Hi,
Correct it only applies to delta printers though as I recall 6 factors is the suggested setting.
It memory serves gathering the data needed for 8 factors is hard to do.

Note:
dc42 kindly pointed out that my memory is faulty. Factors 6 and 8 are fine. It's 7 and 9 that are not recommended. -

8 factors is OK (endstop corrections, delta radius, two tower positions corrections and two bed tilt corrections usually works quite well. It's 7 and 9 factor that we don't recommend. Those attempt to calibrate rod length too.

My memory is not what it used to be.
Thanks for the clarification.

I think the pop up in FW2 is the one that shows up at the bottom for a short while. I use the dark UI so it shows in a light blue. Most messages fade away after a few seconds.but some are persistent.
I'll try taking a screen shit if that didn't make sense.
