Basic question about G30
-
Hi,
I've been using a Z-probe for quite sometime now without issue.
But I do have a basic question.
When we use a G1 command it moves according to the parameters, for example, G1 Xnnn moves on X.
Does G30 move toward Z min because it's coded that way?
What happens if there is no Z axis, for example, instead of XYZ we have ABC?
Not a big deal - I just got to wondering.

Far as I know, yes, G30 is hard coded to behave that way, being that the function is to measure the bed surface with a print head mounted probe.
What else would it be used for?

What got me to thinking about it was someone's mention of G38.n where you specify the axis.
Then I realized I had been using G30 without really thinking about how it worked.
Now I need to create a test config.g with ABC instead of XYZ and see if G30 is still works.
Thanks.

Yeah I'm not sure what it would do without a defined Z axis.
