MB6HC V1.0 - SD Card issues
-
Hi all,
I am using a Duet 3 MB6HC, HW version 1.0 in standalone mode in a CoreXY. Firmware is V3.2.2. Some days ago a print failed with a message like "Can't read file" in DWC. The printer stopped but was still accessible via DWC. It turned out that I couldn't list or read anything from the SD card, however M122 confirmed that the SD card is detected! I used M22 / M21 to remount the SD card and everything looked OK. One or 2 prints later, the same happened again.
Has anyone seen this behavior before and has any hints on how to prevent this?
Thanks a lot in advance.
Regards,

@3d2b Sounds like a failing SD card. Make a backup of all files asap. Then either try a new card, or reformat the old card with the proper formatting tool. See https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/SD_Card for specification, formatting and notes.
You can also look at the troubleshooting section on that page if you want to narrow the cause down further.

@droftarts Thanks for your suggestion. This could be a possible reason, although the card is pretty new. I use it since the upgrade to FW version 3.2.2 and it was new at that time.
I will try with a another card as suggested and let you know.
Thanks and best regards,

@droftarts Using new SD cards was not changing anything. I tried 2 others over the weekend. Both are class 10.
As the situation was getting rather worse with the fault ocurring more often, I assumed a faulty SD card reader.
I resoldered the reader with a hot air station as another user reported earlier. That has improved the situation, as the connecton to the SD card seems to be stable for more than 24 hours now.
So thanks for the help and special thanks to the unknown poster with the heat gun hint (sorry can't find the post any longer, so I don't have the name).

@3d2b glad you got it sorted, and sorry you received a less-than-perfect board. We get a small percentage of boards that have the SD card socket improperly soldered (it can lift and warp during soldering) but they are usually picked up in testing. Unfortunately it seems yours worked just well enough to pass testing. SD card socket issues are covered on the page I linked earlier, as it is a known problem. Normally we prefer the board swapped under warranty, as reworking the board yourself does invalidate the warranty. However, if you have any problems with the board in the future, let me know and we’ll see what we can do.

@droftarts Thanks, that's good to hear. I am currently printing and all is still well.
The board is pretty old. I purchased it in Nov 2019, so I guess it is already out of waranty.
Anyway thanks for the support, I am still convinced to have chose the right board for my printer!!!
