Visual representation of bed when mesh comp applied?
-
Hi
I gather when viewing the height map we are seeing the conditions that the Z probing finds.
Is there anyway to view a "height map" that shows what the conditions appear to be when mesh compensation is active?
Thanks.

@fcwilt could you explain in more detail. Mesh compensation uses the height map so would that not be the same?

The bed is probed and the height map is created. I assume the visual representation we can view is what the probing determines.
Then this information is used to compensate for an imperfect bed. Correct?
So it would be interesting (to me) to be able to see a visual representation of what the "compensated" bed appears to be.

The compensated bed should be flat. That's the whole point.

Yes but that assumes the firmware can make it perfect.
I'm interested in how close to "perfect" the firmware can make the bed appear.
For testing I print simple 2mm discs of different diameters (50mm, 100mm, 150mm) and I think I can see, in the first layer, indications that the compensated bed is not perfect.

If the Z probe is accurate then the virtual bed when mesh compensation is applied will have zero height error at the points you probed. Between those points, who knows, the firmware interpolates the height error between the surrounding 4 probe points.

Thank you. That is what I wanted to know.
Based on knowledge gained here I was finally able to print a very good 3mm thick test disk that covered the entire printable area.
In the past I was limited to roughly 50% of that area due to a couple of fundamental errors I was making.
