duet wifi, endstop issue

I recently had an issue with my delta printer that I've resolved, but one of the symptoms doesn't make sense to me. I'm hoping that someone might be able to make some sense of it:
As mentioned, this is on a Delta printer. I have a duet wifi board, and the verticals use wheeled carriages with end stops at the top of the axis. The symptom was that the end stop for one delta carriage (Y) would be unreliable, more so when the hotend was hot. At 100C, the end stop would work fine. At 195C, it triggered unexpectedly or would just stay triggered. (The end stops are configured with M574 X2 Y2 Z2 S1.) There was also a visual indication of something going wrong: The red LED next to the Y stepper connector on the duet board would "flutter." (It mostly was on, but dimming, etc.)
It turned out that disconnecting and reconnecting the wires at the end stop switch (not at the duet board) corrected the problem. (The connections seem okay with no loose wires, but I'll probably cut and re-crimp them to be safe.)
What I don't understand is why the issue with the end stop switch (wiring?) was more pronounced when the hot end was hot. The hot end is nowhere near the end stop switches. My only guess is that it would be related to the power draw of the hot end heater impacting the end stop detection logic/circuit (but that's nothing but a wild guess.)
A part of my concern is also that this might be a precursor to (or symptom of) a larger problem...

I agree, it's safest to re-crimp those wires.
Do the hot end heater wires run parallel to the endstop wires over part of their length?

No. The hot end wires don't even cross the endstop (or vertical axis stepper) wires.
