Sporadic WiFi outages
-
Hi,
Since yesterday I am observing sporadic wifi outages on the duetwifi 1.03 board I am using. I can see the blue led turning off or blinking in a regular on/off pattern. This is with 2.03RC4 but I doubt it's a software problem. The latest changes to the printer were the addition of a filament-out sensor and a Touch Mi z probe (at heart, a simple optical endstop).
I suspect bad cabling on either the probe (connected to the z probe header) or the run-out sensor (connected to E0 endstop) -- could intermittent shorts on 3.3v cause the wifi module to crash?

It's more likely to be caused by a change in your WiFi environment, for example another access point coming online in the vicinity. Try changing the WiFi channel used by your router.
I'm currently doing some tests with low WiFi signal strength - I've reduced the RSSI on the Duet from -48dBm to -80dBm. One thing I have found is that the automatic reconnect that the WiFi module is supposed to do never works. This delays the reconnect that RepRapFirmware commands by about 45 seconds. So I'm testing a new build of DuetWiFiServer which has the WiFi module automatic reconnect disabled.

This is different to just bad WiFi inasmuch as that the blue led on the ESP module either turns off or goes into a regular blinking mode. With just bad WiFi (normal at my place since ever due to placement limitations and construction peculiarities), the blue LED on the ESP module is on continuously.

That sounds like the WiFi module can hear your router, so it thinks it is still connected, but some messages are not getting through.

I guess I need to add a serial connection to talk to the board when it's in the new weird state, and see if I can get an M122 out while it's not reachable over my network. I'll follow up with that (although knowing my luck, plugging in USB / having USB plugged in will cause the glitch to go away).
