I have a question regarding the Duet WiFi model. How is the reception on the WiFi dongle when enclosed in a metal enclosure? I want to place my Duet and other components into a Hoffman enclosure for my CNC machine and want to make sure the WiFi will work or if I'll need to figure something else out.

There should be a version with the option for external antenna, you'll be better off with that.

I notice that my browser didn't list any options for picking an external antenna, not sure if this is a stock or browser issue, but you could check with your preferred reseller if they stock the external antenna version.

That said, there is a small chance you'll be okay* with the standard version, but the enclosure will reduce the signal, its just a question of how much signal there is in the first place versus how much attenuation the enclosure will give. You'll have losses in antenna wiring, connector and adapters as well, but probably less than without the external antenna.

*) large uploads will likely be slow if it works.

@perseveranze, there are a few threads here regarding upgrading the Duet WiFi to have an external antenna by replacing the WiFi module. Try searching for ESP-07S.

The external antenna version is currently out of stock at Duet3D but more are being manufactured.

(My point was simply that its not clear to the visitor that its out of stock. If you could choose the option for external antenna and then have the stock status change, or simply a separate listing then it would be clearer, and possibly information on lead times could be shown)

I agree, it's not clear. Unfortunately it seems to be a limitation of OpenCart that it can't handle an out-of-stock product option as we would like.
