      Hi

I am preparing a motion system I have made myself to be ready for E3d Tool changers when they become available and what to use duet electronics on this machine.

      My questions are :
It seems E3d are using a stepper motor on the tool changer mechanism and it has no end stop switch but dose have a mechanical stop, so is there a way to drive it to the mechanical stop with reduced currant and then use that as a reference position?
It also seems form there wiring instructions that there is no mention of end stop switches on the X and Y axis either, so is also posable to do this with the Nema 7 motors?

      Thanks

Don't know exactly how E3d are doing it, but I expect they're using this feature of Duet: https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Stall_detection_and_sensorless_homing
Be aware that there are a number of provisos, and you'll need to tune it to your motor/setup.

I believe that's exactly what they are doing. I am collecting a tool changer later this week, so I may have a go at getting stall detection to work on it.

            Hi

            Thanks for that information:

It’s very interesting to know there is something like this available. I am thinking I will have a try with this Duet feature and see if i can make it work reliably before fitting any switches.
