Expansion Connector type CAN on Duet3D-Electronics
-
Hi all,
I'm a little confused right now.
So far I knew that the connection for the expansion cable on the Duet 3 and the Expansion 3HC is a normal Ethernet (RJ45).
I was just about to install both in a new printer, but I found that an RJ45 connector did not fit. !Which connector type is the right one?
Thank you!

RJ12 and RJ11, 6pin and 4 pin respectively will fit.

@CR3D its normally possible to pick up a "ADSL" or similar twisted pair RJ11 cable easily from many different places. I say normally - depending on your location right now you may need to get one online.
Edited to say the "ADSL" type is preferred because the pairs are twisted unlike a traditional RJ11 phone cable.

To be precise, a "High speed ADSL" (the ordinary ones are not twisted pair) or a VDSL cable. Although for short cable lengths in small systems, the type of cable is not critical.

Do you know which cabled needs to be crossed? I crossed the two in the middle. But this is was more by accident.I saw something in the docu about 1 and 4MBit/s and more need to be crossed than. But I missed a pin layout.
(Sorry for buccaneering this thread.) -
Using production Duet 3 boards, none of them should be crossed. Only the 2 pins in the middle are used. So connect pin 3 to pin 3, and pin 4 to pin 4.

@dc42
Thank you very much. I guess that would be a more than helpful information on the wiring page. -
Ok thanks for the quick answers!
I summarize:
You can use RJ11 or RJ12 cables.
You don't need crossover cables and you don't have to cross anythingRight?

@CR3D
Nope, the two middle pins must be crossed. That should be the case in usual DSL model cables. -

A crossed over cable would connect 3 to 4 and 4 to 3, irrespectively of it being twisted.
