      I note that the release notes state (quote)

      "When new axes are created using M584, if no R parameter is specified then the default for axes ABCD is now rotational. Use the R0 parameter if you want them to be linear."

      Currently I have linear A and B axes and my M584 command is as follows:
      M584 X3.2 Y3.1 Z3.0 U0.0 V0.1 A0.2 B0.3 E1.0:1.1:1.2:2.0:2.1:2.2 P7

      So the question is, do I put a single R0 at the end of that line or should I separate out the A and B axes into separate M584 commands with an R0?

        A single R0 will cover all new axes created in that M584 command.
