PS_ON for non 12/24V PSU
-
Hey,
I have read on the wiki that you can turn on/off the PSU with the Duet. However, it says that it only works for 12V/24V PSU. What about PSUs with different voltage ratings e.g. 48V? If necessary, maybe with a buck converter?
In addition, only ATX PSUs are mentioned, what about the commonly used MeanWell PSUs?
In the documentation it says you can switch it on/off by shorting two pins
However, the Duet has a 3 pin connector with 5V, PS_ON and GND. I assume you will only connect PS_ON and GND in this case? With GND connected to -S and PS_ON to ON/OFF (see figure above). Is that correct?
Thanks for any help!

Thanks but luckily I do not need to invert the PS_ON levels. I did however find this:

Hy, I have an Meanwell PSPA-1000-24 and removed the bridge from the power supply. Then I connected the contacts "Ground" and "PS_on" to the power supply and connect an small 5V power supply (Jumper 5V ext!). If you switch the ATX-Power on (M80) the "PS_on" is connected to the "Ground".
It works fine!
But I don't quite understand the need for the 5V power supply. I have 2 PSUs, one to power the Duet and one for the bed. I only wish to remote control the PSU for the bed. What do I need the 5V pin for?
In addition, I still don't know if it's okay to control other voltage ratings.

the 5v is there to keep the duet running.

Makes sense in case you wanna power up the PSU that actually powers the Duet and its motors but I guess if you just wanna turn on the bed PSU you won't need it.
I'm guessing the PS_ON pin is also 5V then and can remote control anything in that voltage range. Unfortunately there is no voltage range given for the remote control of my MeanWell PSU but other MW PSUs operate on 4-10V for remote controlling.

PS_ON is ground controlled
You can use +5V from the expansion header and PS_ON pin.
Switch in a flyback diode.
But it will work in the opposit way as you would expect it.
That's the reason why @veti gave you the link for inverting the signal.
Other option would be to use a separate relay (or SSR) to controll the main power of the bed PSU.
