Best encoder for nema 17 motors
Hello to everybody, i am new here, just registered. We are building a medium/big size 3D printer and would like to have encoders on XY axis. The motor we use are Nema 17, what would be a good encoder to add? I read on the docs that only quadrature encoders ae supported at the moment or something changed? Any suggestio would be much appreciated.

@highfreq if you are referring to the EXP1HCL closed loop board, currently only quadrature encoders are supported but we may support magnetic encoders attached to the rear of standard stepper motors in future. Meanwhile we suggest buying stepper motors with integrated 1000 counts per rev (4000 transitions per rev) quadrature encoders. We test with motors from stepperonline. We tried using external quadrature encoders on one machine but we had problems with one of the encoders.
@dc42 Thank you very much, yes i am referring to the EXP1HCL add on board. Would you mind share a link to a suitable motor with encoder supported?
in case i will not use EXP1HCL and buy a complete closed loop motor+controller, can it be driven by the Duet 3 and let the motor+controller do the encoder thing? (hope it is clear). In case it is possible what interfaces are needed by my external third party motor+encoder+driver to work with duet 3?
Thanks in advance.

@arnold_r_clark Great thanks, i suppose i can connect external drivers the same way even if they ork in closed loop on their own?
