Thanks @dc42. Pulling off the ESP12S didn't change anything so I've ordered some new micros to install. What's the chip package for the 74HCT02?

No change after removing the heatsinks. Here's a thermal image of the board showing max temp of 35 degrees C.

Help with a dead Duet2 Wifi + PanelDue 7i
I've got a dead Duet2 Wifi + PanelDue 7i that I'm troubleshooting for a friend. He's not aware of making any bad connections and the system was running okay prior to it failing. There are some squished pins and a bent USB connector on the back of the PanelDue so it's possible something shorted out there.
It appears to be completely dead apart from some LEDs glowing. Screen is washed out, board not connecting to wifi, no USB device appears when plugged in. I've tried with the screen and SD card removed with no apparent change.
It's currently disconnected it from the machine and sitting on a desk. Nothing gets hot when connecting a 24V supply. I've got LEDs for Vin, 5V and 3.3V and the voltages look reasonable (23.99V, 4.91V, 3.29V). The Diag LED is also on solid, but no LED activity at all on the ESP-12S module.
With the PanelDue connected the screen slowly washes out to white with some coloured vertical lines. I've tried this both with the CONN_SD ribbon cable and the 4 pin PanelDue cable and both seem to give the same result. No beeps when touching the screen etc. The main board behaves the same both with the screen connected or not connected.
I have tried connecting both the Duet2 Wifi and PanelDue via USB to see if I could upload firmware, but both are unresponsive. No USB device is visible for either one (tested on Mac, Win + Linux). I have pressed the erase button on both boards during these attempts, so if there was running firmware previously there probably is not now - but I didn't notice any change in behaviour when I pressed erase/reset.
The main fuse F2 shows continuity as does the PTC F1.
There is only 1V on the ESP_EN pin between the micro and the ESP module.
I'm considering removing the ESP module and possibly replacing the ATSAM4E8EA. Will the system boot without the ESP-12S? If I install a new ATSAM4E8EA, can I flash the firmware over USB with SAM-BA or BOSSA? Or does a bootloader need to be flashed first?
The only other things of note are that there are heatsinks on the motor drivers and stuck to the PCB beneath them, and the board was covered in dust (it has been sitting unused for a few months). I've cleaned off the dust and I'll try removing the heatsinks just in case there's something shorting out beneath them.
