Idiot Proofing Request... (SBC Update)

So I inadvertently discovered that if you update the SBC without the Duet connected, bad things happen (mostly resulting in a duet connection SPI errors and failing future update attempts). Took me the better part of 3 hours to finally get everything sorted back.
Any chance you could put in a check to see if the duet board is online before updating? Or at least throw an error so that when you connect it and update, the Duet 3 also gets updated?

Been a while since your last update?
I think chrishamn posted something about having simplified the update part to avoid incompatibility between new DSF and old Duet firmware, allowing it to catch up.
In any case, you can always recover by usb, and I've posted a script that takes care of installing git/bossac and finding the duet before doing the flashing here somewhere to help with recovery.

Unless you are running one of the first beta versions that was shipped with the first Duet 3 MB6HC batch you can still connect over SPI with a recent DSF version and then upgrade the Duet using M997.

I did have a fairly old version - I think I last upgraded everything a year back. I ran into a problem where the spi interface failed and wouldn’t connect to the duet at all. There were a number of posts here with people that had the same issue in April of this year.If it was a problem with a specific upgrade version, probably not worth the effort to put in a broader fix.
