Axis holding power?

When the axis is moving it will push you across the floor. However, as soon as it stops - and before idle timeout - you can push it out of position far too easily. This is a large stepper on a gearbox with 2.5A (limited by total power budget of 6HC).
Are there any other settings that we can tweak, or any other options short of going to a closed loop external driver? We don't need it to hold forever, but it does need to be rigid while heavy material is manually loaded. Thanks.

@theolodian see the M917 command. It works on all Duet 3 boards. The default standstill current is 71% of the running current.
