Prusa laser filament sensor

Re: Filament sensor
Hi, is the duet filament monitor the same as prusa one? If it is not, does reprapfw support it? Do I need to use 3.3V? Thx

The Duet3d laser filament sensor uses the same sensing element as the prusa one, but instead of using an unreliable I2C connection to the Duet it has an on-board microcontroller to send a robust signal back.
Both we and Prusa have found that these sensors have limitations, in particular they measure the movement of some filaments much better than others.

And I had the question if it will work, if I would connect it, I dont know anything about I2C

No, it's not supported in firmware.

And how hard would it be for you to integrate it?
-
Btw where should I buy the duet3d one?

I'm not going to, because using I2C feed data back from the hot end is poor engineering and would create a lot of support issues, because of interference from extruder, hot end and fan cables. I only implement things I can support. But RepRapFirmware is open source, so you or anyone else can fork it and add the support if you want to.
The Duet3D one is undergoing an extended beta test and is not yet on sale.
