Is it possible to create an array variable?

Good morning, as said in the topic, is it possible to create and use an array as global ol local variable?
I've read the documentation but I haven't seen this option...
Other feature I'd need would be the substring function but I haven't seen this function in the available functions, is this impossible at now?
