Duet3D wifi for 3D printing and laser cutting/engraving
-
Hi guys,
I'm new in this area. My plan is to make 3D printer with possibility to swap with 3W laser.
First step is to choose the board. Is tere possible to use duet Wifi for this.
Idea is to have mounting head on Z axi. On this mount you can put printing extruder or laser. Change electrical cabel and start to work.
Is there nay idea if this is possible to do.

Yes, it is possible and there is somewhat of a guide: https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Laser_PWM_control
That extra board mentioned on the page is important in that it prevents accidental firing of the laser.
I plan to also add a laser module (though a 15W) on my CNC powered by DuetWifi with an extra safety feature: enclosure closed switch. This will be added as a micro switch, placed in a strategic location. I still need to figure out exactly where to wire it up with the Quad NOR Gate. This will ensure that the laser can only fire if:
- The board have stable 3.3V (not shorted; input on the 1A and 1B pin results in LOW for 1Y).
- The enclosure is closed,
- The Duet is actively pulling the Heater Pin LOW
With any laser, please ensure you follow the recommendations for safe operation - the refection of a laser beam on a mat surface can be dangerous to your eyes.

Thanks Jacotheron. This is good news and tip, it will be great help to continue with this.

@jacotheron One suggestion might be to hook the enclosure switch up not to the PWM, but to the power line, so even if the IC and Laser control board somehow fail on, if the enclosure is open, there's no chance of a shining laser at all.

Also, if anyone in the UK wants one of those boards mentioned on the wiki, I've got 9 of them spare - JLBPCB had 10 for $2 if ordering through EasyEDA, so I ordered extra components too.
I can send them assembled or unassembled (none are assembled currently).

Hi. I'm from France and I can't buy the boards on EasyEDA (unavailable components). Have you got yet a board to sell ?

MickaelThis thread is old but you should be able to select replacement components? Can probably use LCSC Part # C6765 for the main IC; didn't check the rest.

@bearer OK for C6765 but almost all the component are unavaibles and i'm totally noob in PCB design

Seems fine here; the 0603 cap is not recommended for new design but 19k in stock. The three through hole headers you'll have to assemble yourself anyway but are in stock when I checked.

@noisettetbou
Looks like the BOM was wrong on the project, updated it now to remove the unnecessary components, and all seem to be in stock.
