making my z probe/endstop

So I'm using a Frankenstein machine, originally a robo r1+. I want to use my limit switches on either side of the x axis (being pressed) to activate when released (when nozzle collides with bed and lifts the entire x axis) . How would I tell the rep rap firmware to probe using that? Or is there a really easy way to manually set my height when I turn on my machine, then in the future buy a probe of some kind?
