      Hello all,

I had a lot of spare parts laying around so I decided to try my hand at building something. What I ended up with is most like MK3S on a Bear Full Frame. For extruder I build Bear Extruder with MK3S sensor with mods for NEMA gearbox, Mosquito and BLTouch. It is 3:1 gearing. Right now I have on it a E3D 0.9 stepper motor.

I am using a Duet 2 Wifi to control printer with PanelDue 7i I had.

This system is a lot like one Chris W built called Warhammer. I am using the config files he had with some adjustments.

So question on motors. I have a full set of stock LDO Motors that are replacement for stock MK3S I could use. However I also have 2 E3D 0.9 motors I could use for X and Y. For Z I don't have anything to change them for. For extruder the way I have setup should I use current motor or switch to something else? When it comes to 1.8 and 0.9 and microstepping etc I am pretty green in my understanding. I am trying to learn as I go but a lot to digest. I want to make best I can with what I have.

      Thanks for input.

For most cases there isn't much benefit going to 0.9 degree motors. The exception is delta printers where the added resolution is needed. For a cartesian, you won't be able to tell a difference in print quality.

For the extruder it may make a difference if you are using an ungeared extruder just to get the steps per mm high enough to eliminate the potential for under extrusion that can happen when trying to extrude very small amounts below one full step. But since you have a 3:1 gear down it won't really make a difference there either.

You didn't mention if you were using 12V or 24V. 24V is much prefered for the motors. If you are using 12V I would stick with the 1.8 degree motors as well.

here is a very detailed analsys of 1.8 vs 0.9 for prusa printers.
