Using deactivated Heater as switch
-
I have been trying to configure my duet wifi to control an electrolyser (new idea!). I have disabled heater 3 (E2) on the DUEX5 expansion board and connected this heater to a relay so that I can turn it on and off with a GCODE. I have looked through all the G-CODES on duetwiki but can't find a suitable solution. Does anyone know the G Code to activate and deactivate a disabled heater for use as a switch?

Thank you so much. You're a star! I will give this a go in the morning and let you know how it goes.

Thanks again Bearer. This solution works brilliantly!

@dawgheart, if it's a bare relay (not a relay with a transistor switch on it), connect a flyback diode in parallel with the relay coil, to protect the heater output mosfet on the Duet. Make sure you connect the diode the right way round!
