      Hi All,

I have a sizable delta printer (@dc42 design) that is currently using Traxxas joints. I am thinking of upgrading the joints to magnetic and I think I like the balls-in-the-rod design but I'm not sure yet.

      • Does anyone have experience with this?
      • Would buying the rods, bearing balls and disk magnets from ali-express work sufficiently well for a delta printer
      • Any recommendations?

My delta has used the magnetic rods and ball studs from Haydn Huntley for several years. I recommend them highly. I lubricate them very occasionally with silicone grease.

I can't comment on any other supplier. Many other types of magnetic rod provide much less attractive force.

Delta printers need to be accurate, and IMO it doesn't make sense to skimp on the materials. The cost of building a good printer goes something like CoreXY > Delta > Bed-slinger Cartesian. But CoreXY printers are more versatile than deltas, and both are more scalable than bed-slingers.

Thanks @dc42, I'll see if I can find a supplier in Europe...

If you need the 360mm long ones then we may be able to supply them from Duet3D if we have any in stock.

@dc42 Sadly, assuming your stock system is accurate, I am out of luck stockwise... 😞

All items have been set to out of stock due to Covid and workload, but we are still dispatching a few items that are hard to get from our resellers. Send an email to info at duet 3d dot com.
