Hey guys, I’m pretty new in the 3D printing ecosystem. I have a background in CNC 5 Axis machines and servo motors so Idon’t really know much about stepper motors and stepper drivers. My main question what is the real difference between the Trinamic 5160 and 2160? I just got a Duet3D 6hc (with 2160 drivers) and a Duet3D 3hc (with 5160 drivers) so before not checking the Duet website I didn’t notice that the Duet3D “3” ships with two different drivers, every retailer in EU is Marketing it with the 5160 and the YouTube videos as well. What’s the matter or what’s the difference? And is the Duet with the 5160 better than with the 2160?

The 5160 is the 2160 with a motion controller built in. In both the 3hc and the 6hc, the motion controller is unused, as there is a giant MCU doing the motion controlling, meaning that the identical 2160 is perfectly fine, and comes down to sourcing in the worldwide chip shortage.
