Hi, I am currently building a new 3d printer using a Bear frame, Duet 2 WiFi and other assorted parts, mainly from E3d. I have designed it using Inventor and all looks rather fine.
However, as usual things get more difficult as you get towards finalizing the design.

A case in point being the Z probe. I was going to use my spare Mini Differential IR height sensor, but its placement is very awkward. A much neater solution would be to use either a Pinda or SuprPinda probe.

There seems to be a fair amount of general comment on these probes, but no definitive verdict on whether they will work with the Duet 2. Can anyone clarify this with, if possible, some detail of connections required and any programming required for them to function correctly.

    Thanks in anticipation!

Hi, I haven't installed one myself, but I have one infront of me right now and I've played with it as I was considering to use it.

The Superpinda/Vinda/Caribou version is quite popular together with the Prusa variants.

It needs a steel bed sheet to trigger and the trigger distance is a mere 2.5 mm or so.

Caribou sells a version of the Prusa with Duet 2 controller and the Superpinda and here's his configuration for that (as an example only):

      M558 P5 C"^zprobe.in" H1.5 F600 T8000 A3 S0.03 ; set z probe to SuperPINDA\\
      M557 X23:235 Y5:186 S30.25:30 ; define mesh grid
      G31 P1000 X23 Y5

If you don't get any good answers here, try asking Wolfgang at caribou3d.com

For unenclosed printers and mostly PLA/PETG printing I think it works good enough if you have a steel sheet. However, as Prusa does, one must be careful to avoid probeing directly above the magnets.

Thanks for that. I do really want to use one of these so it's a good lead.
One thing I have noticed is that the Z probe socket on the Duet 2 only supplies 3 volts and the Pindas are rated at 5 volts... will this be a problem or will the Pindas work on 3 volts?

@handyandy I would go for the Superpinda from Caribou, VonWange or others as the are internally temperature adjusted.

Yes, it needs 5V but you could take that from somewhere else on the board. The inputs seem to tolerate up to 8V and the Z-probe up to 30 V if you have a new enough board.

You can find the data sheet here: https://caribou3d.com/en/sensors/762-9796-caribou-superpinda-probe-sensor-for-3d-printers.html#/220-superpindacable-1m_duet_connector

Also, that one has the connectors you need to just plug it in and go.
