Pneumatic Probe

I'm trying to set up a custom pneumatically controlled probe on my printer, and as far as I can tell it's basically going to function exactly like a bltouch, except instead of a servo it's a relay to deploy/retract. The problem I'm having is that the M401 and M402 commands aren't running deploy/retractprobe.g
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

@p8blr probe type 9 (BLTouch) in M558 is special in that the probe in only deployed at the start of the probing move and it is retracted as soon as the probe makes contact. Perhaps you should use probe type 8 instead?
