    Hi

I have a problem with the ir probe trigging intermittently. I can't see any ir light with my camera. Should there be ir light as soon as I power my printer on or is it only there when am homing the z axis?

@ageis there should be IR light from the LEDs any time the IR sensor is powered.

Does the LED on the IR sensor behave normally, i.e. flash at power up, and turn on when you put a target (e.g. your finger) below the sensor?

Yes it flashes the red led on power up. It stops when I put my finger underneath the sensor. It also does stop when I try homing z but a little too far away from the bed. So I changed the offset to compensate but it's different everytime i power the printer up.

I probed the ir led with my scope and I could see a 2khz square wave. It isn't perfectly square but am guessing thats just some noise. Please see the following for an image of the output from my scope

I assume the issue is the led then?

Is it possible to hand solder the ir leds onto the board? I have a hot air gun but don't have any solder paste

@ageis can your camera see light from just one of the IR LEDs on the board, or from neither of them?
