External SD card using CONN_SD header
-
I want to be able to play file from the SD card but without touching the micro sd and without using the SD reader on the lcd as its more than 30cm from the main board.
Is it possible to connect somehow a SD card reader to the CONN_SD header using the 10 pin ribbon cable?
maybe using something like this https://reprapworld.it/datasheets/ext%20sd%20card%20v1_1.pdf ? -
As long as that board doesn't have 5V level shifters on it, it should be suitable.

@dc42 - what do you mean by "5V level shifter"? (sorry, my english isn't the best, so I didn't get it )
@paboman already tried it? Seems a pretty cool idea.On ebay, they sell lots of boards called "Arduino Raspberry Pi Mikrocontroller SD Breakout Board". What do I have to consider if I buy one of these?

i have bought and use a kind of extension cord. cheap. fast. easy. real plug and play
and you can print holding bracket to mount it to appropriate surface

I don't want to use an extension- cord. They also write in the documentation that it is not recommended at all.

I would more like to use a "second" SD- Slot. The internal SD Slot on the DuetWifi should be for config- Files etc. and the external to swap in and out gcode-Files -

As stated on the wiki we don't recommend those extension leads, because they sometimes damage the SD socket, and the high speed (40MHz) SD interface signals don't travel well.
