I just redid my PID auto tune and got a warning message.

Warning: Heater 1 appears to be over-powered. If left on at full power, its temperature is predicted to reach 485C

It's strange that it only showed up when I tuned to 210c, but not when I tuned to 250c.

      It's a genuine E3D 24v 40W cartridge running on a 24v PSU. PT100 4-wire for thermistor.

Would it warrant turning down the PWM value?

I've got exactly the same hot end/heater model but using the standard thermistor. The waring says the predicted is 807C. Also wondering how to adjust the P. All I found so far in the documentation is:

"The P value is the PWM value to use. Unless your heater is greatly over-powered, use the default PWM value of 1.0"

Wondering how to adjust it and if lowering the PWM will affect the heat-up speed.

If the predicted temperature rise above ambient is less than 1.5 times the ambient temperature rise that you specified for tuning plus 50C, no warning is generated. We didn't want to use a fixed warning temperature because some users print PEEK and other high temperature materials. So instead the firmware assumes that the temperature you specified for tuning is the temperature you typically use, and warns you if the heater is much more powerful than you need to reach that temperature.

Ok that makes more sense. Thanks for the clarification. I suppose I could run with a lower PWM value when printing PLA. The printer was built with the intention of eventually printing high temp plastics and a volcano hotend, hence the higher power heater.

In that case, ignore the warning.
