Why is it recommended to use a stepper motor with a minimum rated current of 1.2A?

I want to drive a 500mA 6V stepper motor with one of the motor drives. I am supplying 24V.

To get best accuracy of the microstepping - especially at higher microstepping, or with interpolation to x256 - Trinamic recommends that you don't operate close to the bottom of the current range. Also, lower current motors have higher inductance, which means the the speed at which you start to lose torque is lower.
