      Brand new nothing else connected is the LCD supposed to display the touch menu? right now screen lights up but blank.

        Unless the Erase button has been pressed while it was powered up, it should display either the normal display or the "Touch the spot" calibration screen, even if it is powered from USB and not connected to a Duet.

          when connected to USB alone all i see is a tight series of vertical lines, same as connected to the Duet WiFi

            Check whether the PC detects the PanelDue as a USB device when you connect it. If it does, it will be a "Bossa Program Port" (under Windows, visible in Device Manager under "Ports (COM & LPT)") and it means that the firmware has been erased, or just possibly not programmed in the first place.
