Big Stepper upgrade
-
Dear All,
I am about to mount a big geared stepper motor on my prototype, but it is way too powerful to be directly driven with the onboard drivers. The motor that I would like to use is this one: https://www.oriental-motor.co.uk/Products/Stepper_motors/Stepper_motors/high_torque_2phase_motors_pkp/?&filter1=PLE+(Neugart)&feld055=64+Nm&arid=31010&dwn=artnr
And a suitable driver should be this one:
https://www.oriental-motor.co.uk/Products/Stepper_motors/Drivers/cvd2/?&filter1=Rechtw.+m.+Montageplatte&feld193=4.2+A%2FPhase&dwn=artnr&arid=20306&download=1
Do you think that this set up will work in combination with the Duet Expansion Breakout Board?
Thank you for your help -
the duet3 should be out later this year. the new tmc drivers on that should be able to provide enough current.
-
@fm16055 It should work as long as the driver works with the voltages provided by the breakout board.
-
@veti Thank you but I need a faster solution
-
@stephen6309 on the driver catalogue there is only this regarding the signal input :
◇I/O Signal Connection
● Input signal
Use 5 VDC for the input signals.
If voltage exceeding 5 VDC is applied, connect an external resistor R1 so that the current becomes 5∼15 mA. (AWO, CS)
If voltage exceeding 5 VDC is applied to CW input and CCW input when the pulse input is open collector, connect an external resistor R3 so that the current becomes 7∼20 mA.
I have red that the expansion breakout board is rated to have a 5V output. Am I right?

The expansion breakout board provides two options. The first is differential outputs a little lower than 5V, typically 3.5V to 4V. Most 5V drivers work with this. But it can also provide single-ended 5V drive for those drivers that are not happy with less than 5V.

@dc42 Thank you for your reply. Sorry if I ask, but I am struggling in finding some documentation to use the breakout board in a single-ended configuration. Could you please provide me any useful link?

@fm16055, to use it in single-ended configuration, connect all the + step/dir/en inputs of your drivers to +5V from one of the servo connectors on the expansion breakout board. Leave the + step/dir/en outputs of the breakout board not connected.
