Control LED Lighting

  • Hi i currently have my led lighting fed from the 5v always on fan connector together with my hot end fan, what would the opinion be on changing the lighting to a spare fan connector so that it can be switched on and off by gcode?

Yes, you can drive LEDs from a spare heater or fan connector, both on the Duet and on the DueX expansion boards.

  • I'm going back to 24V fans, but still need 5V for my lighting, can I take it from the PanelDue connector?

  • I have 12V LED strips and 24V main supply to Duet Wifi.
What I did was to use a cheap buck converter from 24V to 12V, common negative. Use + from the Buck converter and - from the PWM fan output on the Duet. This way I control the case fan (also 12V) and the LED strips.

This trick works for all 12V consumers on a 24V board. The only rule is to make sure that output is low side switched (i.e. the MOSFET is connected between ground and load).

    Yes.

  • Sorry for another noob question:
Can I wire two similar 12V LED strips in series to the 24V fan connector and skipping the buck converter?

  • administrators

Yes, but make sure the 2 strips are the same length and the and type.
