      Hey,

      just got a Error: short-to-ground reported by driver(s) 3.

      was testing the config file with steps and max speeds...

        @cj-bravo

        I updated to the latest firmware (thought it might help the problem)

          Which Duet? Did you get the error message just once, or does it repeat?

            @dc42

            Duet WiFi 1.02 or later + DueX5

            when disconnected - the error goes on without the motor.

            I rerouted the motor to the DUEX5- it works fine.

            error still shows up

              @cj-bravo

              error shows up when engaging driver 3.
              I've been working with it successfully till now.

              duex drivers work fine.

                It sounds like driver 3 has failed. As it's a 1.02 board, I guess it is out of warranty. ☹

                    the confusion comes from the fact that you said duet 1.02 which is quite old.

                    do check the marking on your board and post the real version of it.

                        which version.
                        you can find the version marked on the board after the string duet2

                          My mistake, I forgot that the firmware can't tell the difference between 1.02, 1.03 and 1.04 boards. If it's 2 months old, it's in warranty.

                            what could have caused it ? (to avoid from happening again..)

                              A short in the stepper wiring could have caused it. A bad stepper motor connection might possibly cause it, although in my tests I was unable to blow a stepper driver by doing repeated connections and disconnections while the motor was passing 2A current. Incorrect stepper motor wiring (getting the phase wires mixed up) can certainly cause it.

                              However, a small number of stepper driver chips suffer this kind of infant mortality even if you do nothing wrong. So it it was working normally, you didn't change anything, and the stepper motor wiring is sound, that's probably the explanation.
