Wondering if there is a way to directly connect the Toolboard 1LC to the mainboard, the 6HC. I'm new to the CAN-FD, so I'm hesitant to go at it without some knowledge.

      Cheers,
      Christopher

It should be possible; there is no magic on the tool distribution board.

Don't have any to illustrate how, but the procedure is the same as for the tool distribution board and the expansion board.

but this post from dc42 should explain:

Schematic of the tool distribution board is here https://github.com/Duet3D/Duet3-Tool-Distribution-Board/blob/master/Tool Distribution v0.5/Duet3_Tool_Breakout_Schematic_v0.5.pdf. Basically, if you have no other tool or expansion boards, you need a cable to connect the RJ11 socket on the Duet 3 main board to the correct 2 CAN pins on the tool board, and terminate the other 2 CAN pins on the tool board with a 120 ohm resistor. Also supply VIN power through a fuse to the Tool board. Inline blade fuse holders are readily available.

@dc42 That's awesome, thank you and @bearer for the help. Thankfully, my humble project fund allowed me to put an order in for the Distributionboard. I've been building a machine from the floor up during this shelter-in-place, having never 3D printed anything before, and while it's an amazingly fun process, I'll take the ease offered by the Distribution board at this point, haha.

Thank you both very much, though. I'm sure we'll be discussing many of my mistakes in the future.
