Duet controlled plasma cutter

So, I'm trying to upgrade a home built plasma cutter that was previously using Grbl on an Uno to use the Duet interface. The one issue I have (so far) is the fact that it's looking for an extruder temperature before it can cut (move). How can I work around this issue?
