Thermostatic fan based on CPU temp

Is this possible or even useful?
I have a blower fan (always on) on the bottom for the drivers. The Tevo Little Monster case I'm reusing has a big fan on the top I was thinking should be switched on/off based on the CPU heat.

It's possible in the latest 1.19 beta firmware. Set up a fan to be controlled by the temperature of heater 100. For added safety add in the over temperature warning indicators in the drivers too, which are heater 101 for the Duet and 102 for a DueX expansion board.

Hi David is there somewhere a list of these extra heater channels (and how they operate i.e. actual temps/warnings when over temp) on the wiki? I was searching for them the other day and whilst I'd seen you mention them in a post somewhere I could not find it.

Thanks, I'm still on 1.18.2 so I just went ahead and put it on the always on connector. I may change that later when 1.19 is officially out.

i picked up a 6 ch fan controller for PC and am adapting that. I like the idea of powering cooling fans off board and it comes with 6 temp sensors so pretty much plug and play temp control. IMHO only down side is pc temp sensors only go to 100c so not high enough for internal temp sensors…

that got me to thinking… does the duet wifi board have any sort of filtering on fans power connection? as i understand it they can easily pass ac ripple and even act like an antenna for noise which gets fed back to system. fans dont care about that but pretty sure logic does... i tend to be a worry wart, just saying

The noise generated by brushless fans is negligible compared to the noise generated by stepper motors.
