This is the Nerd in me 🙂
But it would be cool if the board could send email notifications or push notifications. Example: when the print is done, when there is a fault etc…
Push clients for phones such as Pushover might be easily integrated via the available API (https://pushover.net/).

I will ask ChristianH to look into it.

      Cheers

Thanks. Interesting. I'm using pushover since years, never paid a single cent (or was the app not free… Can't recall)
Maybe the apps I use do pay for api access? But I also use it by sending emails to my pushover account and it notifies me (my home servers daily raid updates for example). Maybe sending emails would be easier (pop3 pushmail client or so).

        Thanks for looking into it

Hi we are looking at possibly using SMTP but there are some security issues to consider.

          Pushover definitely had a cost:

Maybe you got in early enough to have a free service?

could be. can't recall to be honest.
4.99 USD for the client is a small price to pay though and the monthly API limitations (Each application registered to send Pushover notifications may send 7,500 messages per month for free) should be good enough I think.
As long as the Firmware supports the API (each Duetwifi board counts as single application with 7,500 messages FOC per month), each user would login to his/her own puahover account, add an application, and enter the API token into the firmware to receive 7500 messages per month FOC (after one time purchase of 4.99 USD).

            API Info: https://pushover.net/api

            Would be a nice option.

There is a couple of other alternatives, Boxcar (has a free tier) and Pushetta is totally free.

I wouldnt do SMTP…. there are better options.... check this out.... they took over for MailChimps closed down Mandrill service.....It uses an API with ajax calls to send emails and also helps avoid spam boxes.

If someone wanted to do push notifications or text messages they could then use a service like "If this then that" https://ifttt.com/

This could monitor the emails from Sparkpost and fire off an unlimited amount of services like send messages to chat rooms, text messages, push notifications and 1000's more options.

For push notifications I suggest the ZetPush https://zetpush.com/.
