I have been struggling all weekend with replacing the board and effector in my Anycubic Kossel Linear Plus with a Duet 3 6HC and Duet Smart Effector. For the most part things went smoothly until trying to get the Z Probing working on the new Smart Effector.

I have checked and re-checked my wiring, even made a whole new cable. Each of the pins is secure and have continuity when tested with a voltmeter. I have disconnected all fans and everything leaving only the 8 pin connector to the effector to try to rule out any interference. I've also tried changing from IO_3 to IO_4 and IO_5.

If I short pins io3.in and GND on the Duet 3 6HC the Z-Probe the web interface reads Z-Probe: 0. If I disconnect the 8 pin connector from the effector and short the corresponding Z Probe Mod and GND pins I also reads Z-Probe:0. However whenever I connect it to the effector it just reads Z-Probe: 1000 in red.

When I power on the effector the green light flashes 2x then stays off. If I tap the nozzle the light flashes green with each tap.

In the config.g I've tried a ton of different values (P1/P5). Below are my current settings.

    M558 P8 R0.4 C"io3.in+io3.out" H5 F1200 T6000

Is there anything I'm missing? Do I just have a bad Smart Effector?

    Thanks in advance!

Yes you appear to have the IO_IN and IO_OUT connections swapped. MOD on the effector should go to IOx_OUT, and OUT on the effector should go to IOx_IN.

Have you actually tried to use it to probe yet?

What happens if you send G28 to home the towers to the top and then G30 to probe the bed? Does it start to move or give an error? And if it moves and you tap it, does it stop?

Doh forgot to add that detail! When I issue a G30 I immediately receive Error: Z probe already triggered at start of probing move

Are you sure that you don't have the connections to the IO3 IN and OUT pins swapped? Please post photos of both ends of the cable.

As far as I could tell from every schematic and blog post I could find I have it wired up correctly.

Also, when unplugging the 8 pin from the effector and putting a jumper between the corresponding MOD and GND labeled items in the connector (WhiteGreen/Blue) the UI registers the expected 0 value. Upon reconnecting to the Effector it reverts back to 1000 in red.

That was it! Thank you so much! I knew it had to be something simple everything else appeared to be working as expected... was this something that was in the documentation that I missed? Or just a misunderstanding on my part that might be useful to put a note in the documentation to help someone in the future?

I've just updated the wiring table in the Smart Effector documentation to cover Duet 3, but it would benefit from a wiring diagram as well.

Thank you both for your quick responses and assistance! I'm excited to be able move on to PID tuning, leveling and preparing to do my first print with the new board and effector!
