      Hi there,

I'm completely new to this Forum, but I try to get help from you. My Problem is as follows:

I bought a Duet 3 Mini 5+ and a toolboard to put it on my direct Extruder. Unfortunately I can't make it work. I connected the power wires correctly (the blue VIN LED is shining) and also the CAN-FD Connection like it is stated on the Website. So I connected CAN Pins 3&4 on the Toolboard to the corresponding Pins on the Duet 3 mini and connected Pins 1&2 to a 120R Resistor, but the red LED which has to Flash doesn't do anything. If I try to connect it always brings me a timeout error.

Now I'm not sure anymore, that this combination will work. My thoughts were: If there's a can bus on the Duet 3 mini, a Connection should be possible. Another thougt would be to get a tool Distribution board to make it work?!?

Can anybody help me with that Problem?

      Thank you all!

@sourteig, are you saying that the red LED on the tool board that indicates CAN sync does not light up at all? It should flash even if the CAN port is not connected.

Do both the red and blue power LEDs light up? If only the blue one lights up, that could indicate that +5V is shorted to ground.

@dc42 Yes, only the blue led is constantly on. What do you mean with 5V shorted to ground? How can I check and fix this? Soryy to ask that, but I'm a really newbie to that.

But I can use that combination? The boards are compatible?

Thank you so much for replying so fast!

            Yes they are compatible.

What is connected to the tool board apart from VIN power and CAN? A connected device might be wired incorrectly (or faulty) and shorting +5V to ground.

I suggest you disconnect everything from the tool board except VIN power, then apply power. You should then get the blue and the red power LEDs lit (the red one indicates that +5V is present) and the CAN LED should blink rapidly, indicating that the board does not have CAN sync with the Duet 3 Mini.

@dc42 I had everything connected. I unplugged all cables except of VIN, then nothing happend after turning on. No LED lit. When I then connected only the 4pin CAN Cable and VIN after powering on, the blue LED lit up again, but not the 5V LED... I did this all with the board not mounted, to exclude shorting over the screws.

                @sourteig

It's possible you accidentally shorted it and broke it. (with the amount of wiring involved it can be pretty easy to do)

I have a Mini 5+ with a Toolboard1LC hooked up and it works great aside from some BLTouch issues which may not be related.

I fixed the problem, it was no shortcut. On the board there are some chips. One of them with around 40 pins had 1 pin, that wasn't correctly soldered to the board. The solding ball was not melted. Fortunately a technichan could fix this and soldered it correctly on the board. Now everything works fine.

Nevertheless Thank you all for helping me!

@sourteig, I'm glad you fixed it! I was about to offer you a replacement board.

I'm sorry you received a board with faulty soldering. That pin must have been making intermittent contact so that the board passed testing at the factory.
