Cura defaulting to relative extrusion?
-
Hi David (and anyone else that has an opinion on this!)
I am currently having a dialog with the Cura devs re using relative extrusion. It's going to happen and I am asking for it to be the default when generating gcode that is compatible with RepRap firmware. There will be an option to enable/disable relative extrusion. Is there any good reason why it should not become the default?
Thanks

I'm just curious, whilst I now use relative e-distances, what is the issue with absolute e-distances? Maybe the question should be Is there any good reason why it should become the default? RRF can handle gcode comprised of absolute extrusion coordinates?

When the user has selected RepRapFirmware as the target GCode flavour, the only reason I can see not to make it the default is that users who have included M82 in their start script and don't change it to M83 when they upgrade Cura will get unexpected results.

I have thought of that, Cura will output an M82/M83 as appropriate after the user's startup script has been output so firmware will always be in the right mode.
