Just want to make sure I understand how to use the grid map
-
Using a bltouch. After the grid map is set up, when a G29 command is issued is the map loaded so it does not have to do a grid map again?
-
Yes, after running G29 S0 or just G29, if the probing was successful then the map is loaded and will be used. You can check by running M122 and looking at the value reported for "Bed compensation in use".
-
You can load the previously probed map with G29 S1 after homing, no need to re-do the map every time. So this is typically what you'd put in your start Gcode.
You normally only do a full G29 when the bed surface has changed, or some other maintenance happened on the printer.

I used the M122 and there is nothing for bed probes heights. When I click the view map I see the map of my bed. I must be missing a step somewhere to save the probe data. Any idea what it is?
-
The bed probe heights in the M122 report refer to bed probing with G32, so ignore them. Just look for the "Bed compensation in use:" value. If you can view the height map in the web interface, then the height map file is present on the SD card.

So if I have the map just issue a G29 S1 in my start up gcode and the map will load?
-
Yes.
-
I have the map loaded. Run the G29 S1. My Z steppers should move a bit shouldn't they? They are not, any ideas
-
If you are using bed compensation, your Z steppers should move a bit when you print.
After running G29 S1 you can run M122 and check the "Bed compensation in use" value.
-
Bed is not moving at all except for lowering to change level. M122 says Bed compensation in use: mesh
-
Would you notice it if the bed was moving only slightly?
-
Nope, Have a point there
