1XD max pps
-
I am running a linear motor trough a 1XD with step/dir and it looks like it can't send more than 100.000 pps. Is it an hardware limit?
-
@highfreq yes the maximum step rate for the 1XD is around that value in firmware 3.3 and later. It's lower in older firmware.
-
@dc42 is there any board that can go higher? I mean in the duet family. The 6XD or anything else can go faster?
-
@highfreq yes the 6XD can go much faster. How much faster depends on the length of the step pulse needed by the external driver. Most external drivers are limited to 200kHz.
Can you reduce the steps/mm setting on the linear motor hardware? What is the maximum step rate accepted by the motor?
-
@dc42 i can reduce the step/mm but i loose resolution. The driver is a hiwin E1 and from what we understand is 1-5 mbit.
In case the driver is not a problem can the 6xd go at for example 1.000.000 or higher? -
@highfreq said in 1XD max pps:

You will only lose resolution if the encoder you are using with your motor can match or exceed the steps/mm you are using. What steps/mm setting do you have at present, and what encoder are you using?
The manual for the E1 says the maximum pulse rate is 200kHz using the single-ended opto isolated inputs, or 5MHz using the differential inputs.

@dc42 we are waiting on a 6XD, will get back in touch once it arrives and we will check performances on that new board.
Thank you.
