1HCL closed-loop as "distant" probe?

I'm investigating if I'm able to use 1HCL closed-loop mode as single axis distant probe...

My current plan:

1HCL closed-loop mode
Homing to get zero
M569.4 to set very low torque just enough to move the probe mechanism
Advancing probe toward to target
Probe hit target and start stalling the motor
Motor stall triggered, position recorded

Anyone have any similar experience with such "strange" usage?

Yea I know I probably able to do loadcell at probe base and do event trigger via loadcell reading, but that's one device to implement.
