I have an 8MB file which only makes it about 30% of the way before the Wifi connection fails. I think two things should be added:

      1. watchdog on the wifi connection (reset if a ping to a programmable IP fails)
      2. allow recovery from partially transferred files so I can eventually get the whole file. Ideally without me having to resubmit but most important is to have the ability to transfer the file.

Right now my work-around is to carry the printer to the same room as the router (-46dBm) to make the transfer then carry it back to the print room (-61dBm signal strength) to make the print (eventually, I will add the extra sdcard slot which will be easier, but for now it's heavy lifting for me).

That's too bad about your network setup. Could you potentially add an access point in the same room as the printer? Say a powerline ethernet access point if you don't have cat5 already in the room.

Or a cheap wifi repeater such as the TPLink WR810N ?

I'll give some thought to pinging the gateway in a future firmware version.

I do have several cat5 ethernet ports available in the room - wishing I had gone with the Ethernet version now but thought eliminating cables would be good. I will try the repeater. You are right, for $40 it's hard to lose. If it solves the problem then win. If not, well I now have a travel router.

I bought a mini router and stuck it in the middle of the printers. Solid connection almost all the time, chose a new ssid just for the printers, so no other devices are using it, and a channel which is clear. Cost £15. But I agree, if ethernet had been available at the time I would have gone with ethernet.

I love the Duet Wifi but kind of wish it had an ethernet port instead. Wireless is great for mobile devices. Not so much for stationary equipment like a printer.

That's why we make the Duet Ethernet too!

So there is an external antenna option available for those comfortable with surface mount rework. Can the same be said for replacing wifi with ethernet. Looks like it is sitting in a socket on the same pins as the wifi.

Looks like the answer is yes.

But where to buy the ethernet daughterboard?

Since you must power off the printer to work your existing bypass… just take the one and only SD card to your PC.

Well, no luck with the repeater yet. I didn't do a whole lot of debug - just went through the quick start routine. It actually made things worse. The Duet couldn't connect at all if the WR810N was nearby. I can try setting it up as a router instead since I have ports available but at this point I think I will try the board swap.
